Familia! Read bottom paragraph first Dad I need a reply.

Hey if the Aggies are good it's all good. I don't have a lot to report on either... That stuff at the conference center sounds really neat. That's a very inspiring story. I want to give that man a hug. That's super cool. We heard about the shooting in Connecticut.... That is genuinely awful. We met a guy tracting and he told us about it because we asked if there was anything we could do for him and he said pray for those who got shot, and we asked who got shot? Then he told us the story and it was very depressing, but he said go help someone that needs it more then me and we took off. But very sad news for sure. I think the most exciting thing this week was we went on exchanges with the traveling trainers. We had a very successful day. He asked where I thought we should go to tract that morning and I said I honestly don't know. So we said a prayer and he said it. While he was praying the thought came to me of a kid who was making fun of us a month or so ago and he was ridiculing us from his truck. So I told Elder Rapier this when the prayer was over and that's where we went. So before we got out of the car I told him this could be nothing but lets hit this street. So we knocked on the kid's door and alas he wasn't even there. So we knocked the rest of the street and alas, we were able to find 6 potential investigators and have a lesson with one. So I thought it turned out okay.

Another lil miracle was we went and saw a less active lady and she was baptized about 5 years ago and for about 3 years she hasn't been able to come to church because of work. She's been going through a pretty rough patch and every time we met we would always share with her something along the lines of endure to the end. So just recently the work schedule was changed and she should have some of if not all Sunday's off for the upcoming year. So that'll be pretty good.

But alas that's about all the excitement from the past week. So I'll talk to you next week and I hope all is well. I still haven't received Coach North's address so if you could get that to me by today I'd appreciate it. I want to send him a Christmas card. But I love you and will talk to you soon!!!

Thanksgiving Week

Yeah having you this close is pretty interesting. The Guido's gave me the American Miss bag so I am now stalked up on jerky and have suckers for a good while. Thank you much for the cash to. That'll help me out a lot because I have some expenses to take care of bicycle and camera wise. But fun fact, today was transfer calls and my companion Elder Gallup is going to Lake Isabella and I am staying in Simi Valley. I will also be training..... Don't know how I feel about that one yet. I don't even know who my companion is. I won't find out till tomorrow morning when I go to transfer meeting. So hopefully I don't screw up too bad. As long as he makes it through the first transfer i'll consider myself successful haha. Think about it this way, I'm only two more Thanksgiving's away. Only one more Disneyland trip without me then it's home sweet home right?

I've learned a lot this transfer. It has been trying, but it has been worth it. I've definitely been coming to the realization that you can't rely on yourself. Yourself will let you down. Yourself will make it so that you try to cope with problems in a worldly manner. Which quite frankly as a missionary doesn't work. You're definitely on a higher plane. I have a new found respect for all those who have served before me and will serve after me. Especially those who actually have tougher missions. I have been blessed immensely and I still find fault with things. Guess that's what happens when you're spoiled huh? Thanks for that one haha. But I have a new found love for people as well. You truly start to appreciate both those who made this possible and those who help you through the hard times. There are some amazing people here in Simi Valley. You've had the pleasure of meeting some of them haha. But our ward mission leader Brother Walter is probably one of the best guys I've ever known. He holds a high status of respect in my books. It's just people like that who make it worthwhile.

We were out walking yesterday and we walked by a house with a couple of guys sitting out front, we said hey how ya doing then kept walking. But Elder Gallup stopped and said Elder Scott we have to go back, I agreed and we turned around and went and talked to em. Turned out they're going to a Bible College down here and they were both so open and willing to learn that it was a very good conversation. We taught the Restoration pretty much and we have an appointment with them tomorrow night so that'll be good. But unfortunately they are Young Single Adult age and we will have to pass on the referral to our Zone Leaders because they cover the YSA ward. So another one bites the dust. But it is what it is. As long as someone has work that's all that matters.

But I love you all very much, I'm sorry I can't be there to make your vacation that much more enjoyable. ;) But I'll talk to you soon. Christmas is right around the corner so we'll be chattering away before you know it. I'll probably call you from the Guido's house so we'll discuss that at a later date. Miss ya tons. Thanks for everything.

Our Favorite Guido Family

December 3, 2012

Well Hello.....

Glad to hear everyone is home safe and sound. It is indeed always good to be home. I will second that motion for you. I heard about the season passes as well... Does sound like they're fairly useless for being in Utah... HAHA down here where it's just a day trip it's not a big deal at all. But you gotta do a whole week ordeal from up there. As for the acting thing.... I love the Guido's to death. I don't think Kara being in their home for that long would be that big of a deal. But it would have to be after a certain person in the area leaves. Cough cough. Also I don't think she realizes that people bug you more when you're with them constantly then they do when you only see them occasionally. Especially young teenage girls. So that's the part i'd be more concerned about then anything is just a relationship going sour and living with the person it goes sour with. So yeah... I would say give it some more thought and definitely wait like a year or so. Maybe even 18 months. ;)

That's funny that Goovin is still doing the whole nerd squad thing. He's only 9 that's pretty normal for his age haha. Don't make him grow up to fast. That happens to much these days. Kids need to be kids because you only get to be a kid once.

I hope the pheasant hunt works out. Which i'm sure it will. What a joyful occasion. It definitely doesn't feel like it was a year ago though that we went hunting last, or when I was opening socks and ties as my Christmas gifts haha. So that's pretty crazy. There are definitely fast times on the mission, but there are also slow times as well. It's a toss up.

Recently we've found a couple blessings in the work. As you know I am training. So that's interesting. But we had a lesson with one of our investigators Sky last week, and we had originally planned to just meet with her and her parents, but alas the dad called most the kids into the living room and we had a lesson with all of them. Originally we were working on Sky, but that wasn't working out too well and then we decided we'd try to get the parents, also didn't work out too well, but they have a 9 year old son named Tristan who was asking questions and expressed an interest to come to church and learn more and he asked us to help him with his lying problem and how to gain respect by being honest, very thoughtful kid for only being 9 years old. I was impressed with the questions and answers he was giving us. Very big heart. You wouldn't expect this family to be about hearing the gospel or chatting with the mormons cause they mom has dyed hair and is tatted up like nobody's business and the dad is tatted up too. The kids have dyed hair and are all kind of scandalously dressed and what not. But they're a very nice, loving family. Just need a little/a lot more foundation in the home. We also had a family bring a girl to church who is friends with their daughter and she now wants to take the lessons and learn more, the mom just told us she was going to talk to her parents about her taking the lessons then she was going to call us. So that should be good. But things are starting to kick around a little bit. We also had a lesson with Cc last night about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In which we invited her to be baptized and she respectfully declined but told us not yet instead of no, a very positive sign. But she has good ward support. We also hitched a ride with them and went and watched the First Presidency Christmas Devotional which I thoroughly enjoyed and so did she. So that was good.

But that's about it down here. Love you all very much and I don't really know what I want for Christmas. I'm having to shave more and more now so maybe that razor wouldn't be to bad of a gift after all. But that's about it i'll talk to you next week!!! BYE!!!!!!!!!!!

Elders on Tandem

Brady with his Disney Suckers!

October 29, 2012

Well it's definitely good to hear that Uncle Matt is doing better. I was looking at a couple pictures the other day and there is one of Uncle Matt and Uncle Dan Utley. It made me appreciate being able to spend a few months in their home even though I wasn't around that much. So he will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm glad that the wasps finally beat Park City for the first time in forever... That's really nice. Should've happened a couple years ago. But it happens. Too bad the Eagles are going downhill as well but hey. That's life. It's been like 80 degrees all week down here in the ol valley of the wind. I guess during this time of year they get what they call Santa Ana's and it's just crazy times of wind and stuff. So that's wicked awesome when you're on a bike. But all is well in Zion. I like throwing pity parties in my mind and then hearing about people that have it like 5 billion times worse then I do so I just shut my mind up haha. We tried this thing this week called chalk talk. We went to the park and drew up the Plan of Salvation on the sidewalk and put questions in front of it that said, "where are we from"  "why are we here" and "where are we going" we had a couple decent discussions with people. But one stellar one with a guy named Jon who was with a friend named Jon so that was funny, but we are going to meet with this week sometime to discuss it more with him. We started talking about families and I asked him about his. His response was unfortunate,  he said his mom has been a crack head her whole life, he started dealing drugs when he was 8 to get money, he got addicted to drugs and was doing LSD all the time and his dad committed suicide when Jon was 17 and he continued to be in the drug scene, till he found Jesus and is now i'm assuming pretty clean, but he's an awesome guy. My companion said, "It sounds like you've had a pretty rough life." and his response was amazing. He said "Nah, I wouldn't say I had it easier then someone who's had the appearance of an easy life, just different struggles." That was really neat.

But anyways not much else to report on here. My Black Citizen watch.... The band broke so I need to send it home so it can get fixed. I think i'm just gonna send all my watches home and buy some cheapo from Target or something. Especially since i'm on a bike.

One of the ladies in the ward went to the Magic Kingdom this weekend and brought me the suckers that are little Mickey heads...... It made my day. There still sitting in the apartment, I don't know if I want to eat them. They're precious haha but i'm going to try and send some pictures to Nic today. So i'm gonna go try that. I love you a lot and I miss everyone very much. Still no word from any of the Kelson clan..... That upsets me! Filthy weasels. But I'll talk to you soon!

October 15, 2012

Hahahahahahahaha that's pretty funny with the guy in court. Sounds like a bit of a jack weasel if I do say so myself. Sounds like work isn't getting to boring then. That's a good thing at least you're having some kind of fun without me. I only have to miss one more season of golf so i'm pretty psyched about that. I can't believe how many people are coming home and pushing a year and stuff. That's so crazy.

That psychs me out of my mind that Erica is going on a mission!!!! I just got an e-mail from Elder Kohler about Jalen and various other topics so that's way awesome! Even if she was available when I get home I won't be. I got a whole set of women waiting for me, most of their names start with P and end with ING so my time will be consumed haha.

Just a couple downfalls in the sports world, that's too bad. But there's always next week. I am getting transferred tomorrow to Simi Valley i'll be serving in the Simi Valley 3 ward and the Santa Susana 3 ward. I'm white washing in with Elder Gallup, I hear he's a pretty good kid so that'll be a lot of fun. I guess it's like the bottom of our mission and i'm uber excited to go down there. I am going to be on a bike so that'll be fun. Gotta go pick one up today. But I don't know my new address so you can just send it to the mission office. That'd work out pretty swell I imagine. Thank you so much for doing that.

That's also a little too bad that Wade won't be in their with Joe. That was my favorite two years in church being able to have my dad in young men's with me. We had way to much fun. Pretty interesting how things work.

I got up and bore my testimony to the Bear Valley Ward yesterday, I didn't think I was going to get transferred but just in case I got up there because a lady was talking about how much she was being targeted the previous week for being LDS. So I got up there and was mainly speaking towards her but I said that her story reminded me of what Christ told his people in the Americas in 3 Nephi 12:11 that blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute, and speak all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. I had to point out that Christ said WHEN ye are persecuted not if or on the off chance that someone isn't a fan, they chuckled at that, but then told her we're blessed for sticking up for our savior and Heavenly Father. I don't know if you heard about Jordan's experience at Church yesterday but you should ask her. It's a very neat story and very uplifting. I'll have more updates next week as to what is going on. I love you and miss you tons. But i'll be back relatively soon. Thank you for taking care of that stuff for me I appreciate it. Talk to you soon!!!

October 8th

No worries that this one was short and sweet. Words from home are always greatly appreciated. But yeah I heard about the BYU game that sounds lame, didn't hear about the Eagles though that's a bummer...

I'm also livid at the fact that both the mighty wasps lost and that Dwight is a Laker. I was informed of this awful news. As much as I love the guy I will not buy a Laker's jersey in his support. I will now have to buy a Favors or Jefferson jersey to wear to the games. But that's okay with me.

Sounds like work is crazy intense. Hope that all works out really well. Some people just need a swift kick in the behind. That's too bad they took this guy over and his company. Glad the camper got a little more use as well. I miss camping, what a joyful treat. Conference was way good this year I liked it a lot. Many inspiring home hitters which was much needed. Our investigators are currently struggling a little bit right now. So hopefully we'll be able to help them progress more.

One of them is just going through heck, Debbie, and the other one doesn't want it bad enough. So somehow we've got to get them to realize how much they need the gospel in their lives. I'll take part of the blame for that one though since i'm their teacher. So hopefully my companion and I can help with their struggles and get them on the path to Eternal life... What a gift that is... We should have a baptism this month or next. It wouldn't be a convert baptism, just a gentleman who's coming back into the church. But hey, if I can help the guy gain his salvation then by all means I have no complaints.

Almost 5 months that is correct, i'm excited to go to a new area and see what's in store, whether that happens next week or the end of November makes no difference. I love Tehachapi, the members here are awesome and even though some of our investigators are having a hard time progressing, they're all very very neat people with awesome hearts. But anyways now that the mushy stuff is over i'll talk to you soon! Good luck at work tell everyone hello for me and that I love and miss them a lot. I'll give you more updates next week as to transfers and companions and stuff. Talk to you soon!!

October 1, 2012

Well you're correct, I am delighted to know that Judge was beaten by the mighty wasps... That's cool that Joe is playing JV that's a good place to get experience before they jump up to the big boys. Also very excited to hear the the Eagles are scraping by. Whether it's an inch or a mile, a win goes down as a win. That's too bad about the Cup though. Maybe if you would've gone into the PGA this wouldn't be an issue haha.

Glad you're staying busy with work. There is a lady here that we are teaching, her name is Debi Twisselman, and she has been going through divorce court and bankruptcy court and stuff for like 5 years. She just recently had an attorney who is a member of the church. Turns out he lied underoath and basically ruined the case for her. That's her side of the story, but I can see it happening. She seems like an honest lady and could really use some help. I know you're busy, but I told her I'd ask you if there is anything you can do for her. Even if it's just advice on the path to pursue because she's trying to take the court cases on her own to get some of her money back. I told her I couldn't promise anything but I would try. she used to work on a ranch with her ex-husband. So that explains the e-mail i'm sure.

But anyways sounds like the girls are very busy with pageant/work shenanigans. Tell Nicki I'm going to write her a letter today in response to the card and stamps I got from her which I appreciate very very very much. Those things are expensive for a missionary.
I miss ol Jordo. I do have a couple favors to ask of you though, could you send me an absentee voting form so that I can vote for Brother Romney please? I also didn't snag my priesthood lineage before I left home so if I could get another copy of that I would greatly appreciate that as well.
We have a meeting with one of our investigators tomorrow night so hopefully we'll be able to address her concerns and set her with a baptismal date. She's basically just a dry mormon but she's a great lady. I don't have much news for this past week. We've done quite a bit of service lately which I thoroughly enjoy. But other then that the work presses forward. I miss you all and love you a lot. Tell Gavin to keep it up in the sports game and to be a good kid. He may be bigger when I get home but i'll still toss him around a little bit haha. Love you talk to you next week! Thanks for all that you do! I really appreciate it!

September 24, 2012

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH................ I heard the dreadful news of the Eagles in shambles.... We are teaching a couple, Bill and Linda. Bill had his name removed and is wanting to get back into the church and his wife isn't a member. But in time things will change :) But they're pretty good at staying in tune with the sports world. But I'm glad the Wasps have turned around after the past few years. Is Joe Kelson still playing football? If so how is he doing? Good to hear that you're still winning in the beloved game of golf. That's always a plus. I heard about the dedication. That must've been really neat. It wasn't a church wide thing though. That would've been very neat to witness though. Sorry about the metal chairs. We had to sit in those at Stake Conference last weekend... But it was still really good. Not a lot of change here. Elder Deese and I continue to get along and perform acts of service for our fellow man. We could potentially have a couple more baptisms within a month or two so we'll see how that goes. I don't even know if I'll be around though. Transfers are on September 16 I think and i'll have been here in Tehachapi for four months. So we'll see what happens. We were having a correlation meeting on Saturday when lo and behold our Ward Mission Leaders doorbell rang, I feel as if it were ex Jehova Witnesses because it was a couple that was preaching to us about how we've taken the third commandment as people and have take the lord's name in vein by giving him the title of Lord in the Bible.... It was interesting, but he kept trying to prove J W's wrong by pointing all these things that didn't pertain to us at all, then he said torture steak referring to the cross where I came to the conclusion that he was either excommunicated or he left due to his recent revelation. But anyways we told him a little of what we believe and gave him a Book of Mormon and asked him to read the marked paragraphs and pages to see what he thinks. So we'll see if anything comes out of that. I would assume not. But hey, seed planted. Anyways hopefully I'll have some more fun stories for next week. But till then, love and miss you all and I'll talk to you in 7 days!

Subject: Re: Hey Brother
I hear the world of football is pretty good these days...... I'm upset that the season everything seems to be going swell with all my football ties i'm not around to witness such magnificence. But that's okay. I'm assuming the 2014 season will be rather swell. I haven't seen Brother Billings for a couple weeks but when I do, I'll let him know you say hi and that blowing in the wind was a success. Sounds pretty crazy the loss of the cougs.... Let me tell ya how sad that makes me...
Good to hear the game has been stepped up in the world of Preston and Scott! Do you even have 25 friends to take to Tucanos? I miss that grilled pineapple with it's delicious caramel glaze... Oh sweet victory. Not a lot has changed in the mountains of Tehachapi. Another week come and gone. We're teaching a lady right now who's name is Debbie, she's been going through a long five years of divorce court and has been getting tossed around left and right. Sounds like things are pretty upsetting. I haven't told her you're a lawyer yet, I don't think she has the highest opinion of them right now... She had an LDS lawyer who gave her a Book of Mormon but he ended up lying while under oath in court and she got flipped on again.. So she gave the book back with a note written on the inside that might not have been to friendly... But other then that things continue to press forward. You should just make the kids sleep outside in a box with no blankets or technology for a week so they can appreciate having so much as a home to live in. Let alone the other extremities that are so graciously given by their loving parents. They don't even have to feel guilty when they walk in a house and a tv is on that they catch a glimpse of. It's freely given hahaha.
We had stake conference yesterday and that was really good. I've never taken so many notes in a meeting. It was a really good session, I wish I could've gone to the Saturday night session as well, but alas no such activity allowed as a missionary. The proselytizing must be done. But it was really good and we rode down with some of our recent converts so that was good. But anyways tell everyone hi for me and that I love and miss them. Thank you for sending the hats, ties, socks, and camelback. It is greatly appreciated. If Nic sends another snail mail soon, ask her if she'll include stamps, those are expensive haha. But till next week take care and i'll talk to you soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 10, 2012

Gahhhhhhhhhhhh so much good news! Glad you had a fun time while golfing with all these important people... In Pebble Beach, and checking out a bunch of people riding in on their own set of wings... How would it be. Some lady was talking how she was at the gym the other day and told us these women next to her were whining about how much the cost of fuel was... The only catch is they were talking about the fuel for their jets... Pfft rich people. Glad to hear you both still have jobs and that they're staying busy. Good to hear the kids are still the same as well haha. You can read to BoM by the end of the year easily. All you have to do is read like four pages a day or something. Just do it right before the kids go to school for a couple pages then right before everyone retires to bed!

Sounds like the world of football is doing pretty swell! All three of these victories sing sweet praises in mine ears. I think the one I'm most excited about is the win over Morgan. That's awesome! I can't stand to watch those cheaters win. It's very upsetting. Hopefully the team goes far this year. I can't believe I was doing that two short years ago. I feel like it was just last month I was sobbing due to a grudging loss to Judge.... Wide left...

But anyways things on this end are doing very well! My new companion is a stud. His name is Elder Korey Deese. He's a convert of about three years. Joined the church when he was 21 and he has about 7 months left on his mission. He's 24. He's from North Carolina and his family joined the church about two months after he left on his mission. So that's pretty cool. His conversion came about through the Book of Mormon. So it's a pretty powerful piece of literature if I do say so myself. The work is good and we were pretty busy last week. All in all things are pretty good down in SO CAL.

Fun fact for the week, we're at a ward BBQ on Saturday and we started talking to a guy who tells me he grew up in Richfield, Utah. We start talking a little bit and he asks me what my dad's name is. I tell him Bryan. He goes "Oh I know Bryan, he was a great guy! We didn't really hang out and he probably won't remember me but we had drivers ed together! I remember when we were driving your dad went first and he got in and was just cool and through one hand on the wheel and started driving and the drivers ed teacher and him just started chattin it up and talkin all casual like nothing was even happening. Then I got in the car so I tried putting one hand on the wheel and driving and the teacher got mad at me and told me to put both hands on the wheel and then he stopped me in the middle of an intersection and there was a car coming and your dad was like whoahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"   This man's name is Garrett Billings if I remember correct. So I thought that was pretty neat and funny. He moved from Richfield to Ventura the summer between Sophomore and Junior year. But that's about it down on this end. I love you a lot and look forward to hearing from you next week. Tell everyone hi for me and that I love and miss them as well. Shoot Wade a text and tell him Brady says you're an unreliable human being... Then give him my best of wishes haha I'll talk to you soon!

Love, your son

September 3, 2012

But anyways, the baptisms were really great. I baptized Sam and Elder Monk baptized Susie. I had to dunk him twice because his foot came up. You ever pick up a cat by the back of the neck by the fur, and it kind of just goes limp? That's how Sam was, once he's underwater he just lets his body go and kind of lies there haha. But it was a really neet experience and they seem really happy. It's been cool to see the change in people as they grow and progress in the gospel. Especially the King's. I hope that the dad sees the change in the family's life and wants the same spirituality and blessings. So we'll see what happens with him. Other then that, we're kind of back to ground zero in one of our wards. All our investigators are baptized, it's time to find some more and help them as well. We do a lot of service so hopefully that'll help. It gives a pretty good image when you get a couple Mormon boys working hard and helping people out. But that's about all for now. I'll let you know how the new companion is next week. As for the Camelbak I thought I left it at the top of my closet. But it could be at the bottom as well. In that general area. If you can't find it it's not a huge deal. It's just small and convenient. Good to know I've been out 100 days too, I didn't even know that. Only like 630 left haha. But love you all lots I hope all is well. I'll talk to you soon!

p.s. Sam and Susie's baptism photo. That is John and Michelle in their living room. The one with me and the sign, I found that sign at a gas station for a dollar so I figured, why not. Puffed out my cheeks a little to get a rounder feature. ;)

August 27, 2012

The work is going alright. We've had some interesting couple weeks, but we do have a couple baptisms this Saturday so that'll be fun and exciting. They're good kids, the mom and sister were baptized back in April and now the 17 and 14 year old in the family are getting baptized. Hopefully the dad will follow suit so that the whole family can be united eternally. He's the only one that's holding back right now. But other then that not a whole lot of neat stories, just the same old work. We did however change a girls views on the church. She was a foreign exchange student from France a couple years ago and she came back to stay with the family she was with for a few weeks. It's a part member family and we went and had lunch with them once and showed the French girl who's name is Matilde that mormons aren't crazy, and we don't practice polygamy anymore. The family gave her a Book of Mormon and Elder Monk and I each wrote our testimony's in it and told her to get online when she gets home and have the missionaries come her way. So hopefully that'll work out.

July 30, 2012

Oh no worries, I figured there'd be a reason behind last week it's all good. But yeah the mission office forwards all the mail that comes in. So I should get it pretty soon. Only get about one letter every couple weeks so that's okay haha. But glad you got to come visit. I had a dream the other night where I was home doing something so it was nice to see you guys again! haha But work is good all is well. We have a couple baptisms this Friday so hopefully we'll be able to make those happen. It should be awesome. But other then that all is the same in the good ol' Tehachapi. Next snail mail you send put like a ward list or something so I can talk to a few folks back home. I would appreciate it! Thanks for everything I appreciate it! Love you too!

July 23, 2012

Yeah shucks I've been out two months... I have mixed feelings about that. But definitely glad to hear that the guy from Utah was picked for the Bachelorette... All my wildest dreams seem to be coming true. I miss reality tv almost as much as I miss Pippa... Haha but glad you got a reward from the days of 47 and get to go spend some time with the family. Goose could beat me before I left so that's not going to be a huge surprise when I get home and he's shooting 40's while I'm shooting 60's. If I had clubs we could go golfing out in Bear Valley on P-day for like 5 bucks cause it's a private community. But alas... there are too many variables so we'll just wait till I get home. The girl you ran into at Tarahumara's name is Tori Mauer if i'm not mistaken. She's worked there for a little while so that's cool she's still around. I feel like it wasn't that long ago that the rodeo was going on that's crazy. Only two years ago I was walking around that stadium in my football jersey, remember that? Time flies, it's kind of starting to freak me out. I kind of figured that Stratton wouldn't make it too far. Got to know the kid when I went to Texas last fall to work with Miro, nice kid but has worldly intentions. That's too bad though he would've had a great experience and a lot of fun. But you're right, better to go home then to waste the Lord's time and money. It's definitely not easy but it's a mission not a vacation. That's my President's quote haha. Hope all goes well at the tournament, must be hard. If you win some crazy prize that'd be pretty legit. Swinging a club to get Mercedes and cash and all sorts of awesome things.... What a life ;)

I might take you up on that offer of sending people to the house. I believe some members in the Golden Hills ward might be going to Utah and Idaho so I'll tell em they're welcome to stay there if they need to. But other then that work is the same. The adversary is working some pretty wicked magic on a couple of our investigators and trying to push back the baptismal dates, so I hope that doesn't happen. He's kind of a tool.. He makes it hard for people to progress in the gospel. I don't know if i'm allowed to bad mouth him but shucks.... What a weasel.. Anyways members are great and everyone's treated us really really good. Transfer calls were this morning, Elder Monk and I are both staying another six weeks so hopefully everything goes well. We're laying tile for a less active family in the ward which is going pretty well.. So looks like I'll just build myself a house when I get home. Wire it, tile it, pipe it, all sorts of fun stuff. But till next time I love you and I hope all is well. Tell everyone hello and to feel free to write me. I'd love to hear from the Kelly's and the Bonner's and the Kelson's. Tell that man Wade i'm mad he hasn't done anything to keep contact! haha but love ya talk to you soon!

Elder Scott teaching a member Family

New News

That sounds like an awesome time down in Sin City! I'm jealous, when you're not running from diseases and people trying to attack you it's actually a neat little town... That's good Brandon got into a Med school they were still trying to figure that out when I left so that's really neat! Thank you for depositing that check into my account I appreciate it, and for purchasing a king bed that i'm assuming has a frame!!! That'll be so cool!!! Especially after sleeping on a twin mattress for two years.... But anyways I had dinner with a family last night, the Jasters, and they actually know Matt and Jody. They have family there and the brother of the wife is in their ward! They said they passed through St. George to go on a youth group trip and stayed at the Valentines for the night! The weather in Tehachapi is pretty steady in the 80's and 90's surprisingly which is still hot for me but it's not 115 like it is in Bakersfield. Anyways on a more spiritual note, John and Michelle have been investigating for like two years, and are finally set with a date!!! John has been ready for a while he's just been waiting on Michelle. She had a dream the other night about some kids she was with and an animal they had. For some reason she was responsible for the animal and it got stepped on and killed. So she told us she said a prayer along the lines of "God if you bring this thing back to life, I'll be baptized into the Mormon church..." sure enough it came back to life. Then she described the animal and I told her it was a naked mole rat, and she didn't know what that was so she looked it up and it pretty much was which is what helped her decide that is wasn't just a dream... Weird huh? But everything is good here, i'm not in need of anything right now that I'm aware of but when I find out I'll let you know! Love you and miss you and I'll be back before you know it!!!

People in my mission commenting on the pic? Is Nic friends with people from here? Cause I don't think I am... But the work is going good. The people here are really friendly so I don't have much ridicule for being LDS. Most people know someone who is but not a lot of people are interested. We did get chastised the other day by some crazy old man telling us about or false prophets and how he's the Lamanite of all Lamanites... Nice guy though. I think he might have been at Woodstock a little too long. But Tehachapi does have thousands of wind turbines so that's pretty cool. But no baptisms yet. We have six investigators with dates, and I just told Nic about one of them. We have to keep pushing them back too which is unfortunate cause everyone keeps running into problems which is really starting to weigh in on their salvation and I don't like it. If everything goes as planned we should have four baptisms on the date of August 4, then a couple more after that date. But the work is good. The members are really great and there's some very solid member missionaries that really reach out to others and try to share with them so that's pretty cool. The only memorable experiences so far are the crazy lady I met and told Nic about, and the e-mail I sent her today talks about why two of our investigators finally decided to get baptized. Oh the other day one of our members called us over to give a blessing on their home because they found a dead guy in the apartment up and over from theirs so that was pretty interesting.... Apparently he'd been there for a few days which is kind of weird... But yeah that's about all. When I have more cool stories i'll definitely let you know. But till then I love and miss you and I'll talk to you soon!

Brady Find Tyson at the MTC

First Week in the Field

That's good everyone is staying busy! I'm gonna go right to mission things since time is limited on this technological piece of communication. My first companion is good. It took me a while to get used to him, we are basically nothing alike haha but he's an awesome guy and absolutely loves his mission. His name is Elder Monk and he's from Idaho Falls. I told Dad a little more about him last week I don't remember exactly what. But once we got adjusted to each other everything has gone a lot smoother. I forgot my stinking camera again!!!!! I just barely thought about that. Dangit... But we've been doing pretty well. We have like 10 investigators or so. My favorite ones are Joe Layne and John and Michelle King. Joe is a vietnam vet who was referred to us by a counselor in Bakersfield. His daughter is a member and he told us he prayed to ask for help on what he should do because he's been to several different churches and hated the fact that they were all focused on money. He said his dad died and his mom had to pay a pastor like 500 big ones under the table for him to be "saved" which is total garbage. I hate that.... But anyways he prayed and then we showed up and during the lesson we were talking about being saved and he asked "Well what do I need to do?" and I said we'd like you to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized by someone holding the proper priesthood authority of God and he said well sure haha. Then we told him we'd have a baptismal service on the 14th of July and asked if he'd prepare to be baptized on that date and he said yes and his daughters baby shower was that day. So we told him we could change the date and he said Nahh that's for girls hahaha he's a stud but we changed the date to the 21st we just need him to make it to church more so he can meet all the requirements.

John and Michelle are awesome they both have accepted baptism and we are just waiting for Michelle to make up her mind on when she wants to be baptized. We haven't quite pinned down what obstacle we need to help her over come but we're getting there. But outstanding people. You'll have to meet them when all is said and done and we come to Cali again or something. But anyways I have some more e-mails to hit up so i'll talk to you soon. Oh and we had a herbalife shake last week, I'd check it out if you're still doing the whole diet thing or whatever it's got some pretty good stuff in there and a lot of people lose a lot of weight rather quickly so check that out. But love you and thank you for the cd's tell the kids I love them too and i'll see them soon! Share this with dad too i'm sure I'll tell him other things then you can swap e-mails or something! Talk to you soon!

I totally forgot about Goovin's birthday:/ tell him happy birthday for me and that i'm only going to miss one more then I'll be there for the next one! But yeah nothing's really happened this week. I don't have any crazy Chilean stories like Kelso I'm living in the states where everything is safe and sound.... Most the time.... But thanks for everything and I'll talk to you all soon. Tell everyone I love them and that I'll see them soon! Finally got some pictures too! Companions, kids in my district in the MTC, something we did on P-day last week. All sorts of goodies haha You'll have to share these with Jordan too or throw them on Facebook or something.

First CIty Tehachapi

Here is Brady's newest letter. 6/18/12 Sounds like Bishop is about to be done... That's upsetting hopefully the next one is as good as him. I'm upset I forgot to show my gratitude for him in my farewell talk. You should bear your testimony next fast sunday and tell him how much I love and appreciate him and that he was always there when I needed him whether it be day or night. He's my favorite bishop I've ever had so he's the man. But the work in Cali is good. I'm stuck in a little podunk town called Tehachapi on the Border of the mission boundary towards Utah. Trying to put me as close to home as I can be I guess. But I will get pictures to you as soon as I can I forgot my camera today so it will probably be next week when I get around to that but I've got a few. But I have actually slept pretty well for the most part since I've been here. It's a little hot at night so that's a bit of a bummer but I'll adjust. Love you very much and thank you for everything! Tell the family hello and that I love them too!

Days Until Brady Comes Home

This was Dad's first letter from Brady:

Oh yeah I got the MTC on lock, it's fun to get up at 6 in the A.M. and non stop work till about 10:00 at night.I haven't broken any records drinking Chocolate Milk. I've been trying to watch my figure, and yes I see Tyson on a few occasions throughout the days. Yes Nic has been on the ball by sending me goodies which is awesome, and the days go by super quick just cause there is so much to do. I heard camping was a bit of a joke so that's unfortunate to hear. The spirit here is awesome and I've learned a bunch. Tyson actually just found me as I was writing this so he said to say hello, due to lack of time I have to take off but I love you all and I will talk to you soon. You should have a letter in the mail so I don't know what the deal is. But love you talk to you soon.

This poem was written by: Grandma Bev Scott

Brother Kelly, when he prayed first,
thanked the Father for each Scott
and the blessings that this family
to the Second Ward had brought.

Brother Kelson reminisced some,
telling of pool incident
when he launched young Brady skyward.
“Higher!  Higher!”
Up he went!
                                        Kelson fretted, Brady begged more.
“He can take it,” Bryan said.
Brady’s all heart, he can take it.”
That thought was this topic’s thread.
“God looks not on man’s appearance.
No, He looks upon the heart.
Brady’s heart, no doubt, will help him
do his best, do well his part.”

Chapel’s full to overflowing.
(Brady’s loved by many folks.)
When he stood, he was impressive
(starting with the best of jokes!)

His first thought was on obedience.
“It’s the armor you will wear.”
                                        Next he talked about forgiveness.
“Imperative, if you do care!
Forgive all men, as Jesus taught us.
                                                         (By example we know how.)
On the cross, He said “Forgive them.”
(If it’s needed, do it now!)

It was love, the final topic,
that was touching, that was sweet.
“All my life’s I’ve been surrounded
by pure love that’s been complete.”
He made mention of a good friend,
then paid tribute to his mom.
“At her home, my friends were welcome….
didn’t matter where they’re from.”
“How I love my older sister.
even though we bicker some.
I’m so glad she’s here with roommates.
(Down from Logan they had come.)

“Dad has been superb example
in all aspects of my life.
So has Nicki who accepts me.”
(He is loved by father’s wife.)

In conclusion, Brady talked of
Gratitude for good, great friends
and for Joseph Smith’s example.
“The Church is true!”
With that, he ends.

Back at home, a celebration!
Long, white tent set in backyard.
Tables laden with a real feast.
Enjoying it will not be hard!

Neighbors, friends, and lots of cousins,
aunts and uncles by the score:
                                        Valantines, Sandbergs, and Utleys,
                                          Taylors, Allens, Batemans, more.

             Grandma Joanne’s in the kitchen,
     serving  up delicious things.
Grandma Bev is watching Gavin
on the tramp, with jumps and springs.

More and more guests keep arriving.
Were five thousand fed this day?
It was awesome to behold it.
Miracles, I think, hold sway!

Yes, this time will be remembered.
Good things happened in Midway.
Then, that evening’s there’s an eclipse.
(Doesn’t happen every day!)

Brady, hold these happy memories.
Truly , many love you so.
You’ll be awesome with your big heart.
Work, pray, fast, and

Today was a great day! Brady's talk was so great! He highlighted Christlike attributes.

Obedience: "The discipline contained in daily obedience and clean and wholesome living builds an armor around you of protection and safety from the temptations that beset you as you proceed through mortality.

Forgiveness: "forgiveness is not going to be easy, but Christ said, " I will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men."  Christ died for us and without hesitation he said,"father forgive them for they know not what they do." No other example known to man is a more perfect example of obedience and forgiveness.

Love: "Love one another" How easy and simple is that? Brady paid tribute to his friend Chris, and his Mother for her example and how much she cares for everyone she comes in contact with.  He expressed how proud he was to be his father's son. For the example he has been over the years.

Brady told his siblings, Jordan, Bailey, Hayden, Kara, and Gavin how much he loved each one of them. "I am so blessed with all the friends, and family that I have had in my life."

Gratitude for Joseph Smith, and for a living prophet. Brady especially expressed his gratitude to his loving Savior and his sacrifice.

What a great man Brady has become. All of his parents are proud to call him our son. We know that he will face some of the hardest challenges and some of the sweetest experiences of his life. It is hard to let him go, but we know the Lord will find a great instrument in him.

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Brady received his call at about 8:30 Wednesday morning. We sat and looked at it until 7 pm that night. Brady wanted to wait for Jordan to come down. I thought that was sweet! The living room was full of friends, and his mom was with us via face time. Bishop Kelson brought the Priests over. It was an exciting moment! Brady was assigned to the Ventura, California Mission. Short sleeves and Palm trees! He will enter the MTC May 23rd. We are all so happy for him. He was told in his Patriarchal blessing, that he will have a special relationship with his Mission President. He will tear it up! We are all so proud of him!
